O Tridente e a Vanguarda: Neptuno na Cidade das Artes
A imagem mostra um dos conjuntos mais emblemáticos da Cidade das Artes e das Ciências, em Valência, um projeto de requalificação urbana desenvolvido entre o final do século XX e o início do século XXI para reforçar a oferta cultural e científica da cidade. Em primeiro plano, o espelho de água integra uma escultura metálica de Neptuno, da autoria de Antonio Mari; a figura do deus romano do mar funciona como referência simbólica à relação histórica de Valência com o Mediterrâneo e cria um ponto focal que dialoga com os reflexos e a escala arquitetónica envolvente. Ao fundo destaca-se o Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, teatro de ópera e centro de produção artística desenhado por Santiago Calatrava, com uma linguagem estrutural baseada em betão branco, aço e grandes superfícies envidraçadas. À esquerda, a mancha verde pertence aos Jardins do Rio Turia, instalados no antigo leito do rio após as obras de desvio motivadas pelas cheias de 1957.
The image shows one of the most iconic complexes in the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, an urban renewal project carried out between the late 20th and early 21st centuries to enhance the city’s cultural and scientific offerings. In the foreground, the reflecting pool features a metal sculpture of Neptune by Antonio Mari; the figure of the Roman god of the sea serves as a symbolic reference to Valencia’s historical relationship with the Mediterranean and creates a focal point that interacts with the reflections and the surrounding architectural scale. In the background stands the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, an opera house and arts center designed by Santiago Calatrava, featuring a structural language based on white concrete, steel, and large glass surfaces. To the left, the green area belongs to the Turia River Gardens, established on the river’s former bed following the diversion works prompted by the floods of 1957.
