Ascensão à Marofa: Paisagens do Riba-Côa

Durante uma subida matinal à Serra da Marofa, partindo de Freixeda do Torrão, é possível apreciar a paisagem típica da Beira Interior Norte, no concelho de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo. Com 977 metros de altitude, a serra oferece uma vista panorâmica de 360º, abrangendo a bacia do Douro e a fronteira espanhola. A vegetação é rica, predominando pinhais e matos mediterrânicos, resultado de reflorestação, entremeados por amendoeiras e oliveiras. O percurso, que segue antigos caminhos rurais, conecta aldeias e proporciona contacto com a ocupação humana histórica da região. Do alto, destaca-se também a geologia da serra, com afloramentos de quartzito visíveis nos cumes. A luz da manhã ilumina os contornos do terreno, evidenciando a transição entre áreas de maior altitude e os vales agrícolas.

During a morning climb to Serra da Marofa, starting from Freixeda do Torrão, it is possible to appreciate the typical landscape of Beira Interior Norte, in the municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo. At an altitude of 977 meters, the mountain range offers a 360º panoramic view, covering the Douro basin and the Spanish border. The vegetation is rich, with pine forests and Mediterranean scrub predominating, the result of reforestation, interspersed with almond and olive trees. The route, which follows old rural paths, connects villages and provides contact with the historical human occupation of the region. From above, the geology of the mountain range also stands out, with quartzite outcrops visible on the peaks. The morning light illuminates the contours of the terrain, highlighting the transition between higher altitude areas and agricultural valleys.
