In the Archaeological Museum of Barcelos there is a 16th century stone path or cross landmark, popularly known as the "galheteiro". The designation, although originally referring to the liturgical utensil that contains the wine and water cruets, was transferred to this landmark due to its formal similarity. With a central hole, possibly intended to receive a cross or ornament, the monument marked paths or served devotional purposes. This linguistic appropriation reflects the tendency of popular culture to establish associations between objects of similar appearance, even with different functions, evidencing the adaptation of known terms to new contexts, based on visual analogy.
