Entre Peregrinos e Contrafortes: A Fé em Villatuerta
Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assunção, paróquia medieval de Villatuerta, na Navarra, integrada no traçado do Caminho Francês de Santiago. O templo atual resulta da reconstrução gótica realizada entre o final do século XIV e o século XV, após a destruição da primitiva fábrica tardorromânica — erguida por volta de 1200 — durante o incêndio de 1378. Conserva‑se ainda a robusta torre de origem medieval, testemunho da antiga estrutura românica. Reconhecem‑se a cabeceira poligonal e a nave única reforçada por contrafortes exteriores, solução estrutural típica do gótico navarro e bem visível na fotografia. A construção em cantaria de pedra e o adro murado articulam o edifício com o tecido urbano ajardinado que o envolve, enquanto a torre sineira marca o perfil da povoação. As figuras de peregrinos, equipados com mochila, sublinham a função histórica da igreja como lugar de acolhimento e referência espiritual para quem percorre a rota jacobeia em direção a Estella‑Lizarra.
Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, medieval parish of Villatuerta, in Navarre, part of the French Way of Saint James. The current temple is the result of Gothic reconstruction carried out between the end of the 14th century and the 15th century, after the destruction of the original late Romanesque building—built around 1200—during the fire of 1378. The sturdy medieval tower, evidence of the old Romanesque structure, still stands. The polygonal apse and single nave reinforced by external buttresses are clearly visible in the photograph, a structural solution typical of Navarrese Gothic architecture. The stonework and walled churchyard link the building to the surrounding urban landscape, while the bell tower dominates the village skyline. The figures of pilgrims, equipped with backpacks, underline the historical function of the church as a place of welcome and spiritual reference for those traveling the Jacobean route towards Estella-Lizarra.
