O largo apresentava ainda o traçado tradicional, com calçada portuguesa e o chafariz central, elementos removidos na intervenção urbanística posterior. A remodelação, concluída na década seguinte, alterou profundamente o carácter do espaço, substituindo o pavimento e relocalizando o chafariz, o que gerou contestação entre muitos vimaranenses. Esta fotografia preserva o ambiente urbano anterior à transformação, testemunhando a relação entre memória local, sociabilidade quotidiana e património material.

The image shows Largo do Toural in 2002, overlooking the Milenário café, an iconic meeting place in the city. The square still had its traditional layout, with Portuguese cobblestones and a central fountain, elements that were removed in a later urban redevelopment project. The renovation, completed in the following decade, profoundly altered the character of the space, replacing the pavement and relocating the fountain, which generated controversy among many residents of Guimarães. This photograph preserves the urban environment prior to the transformation, bearing witness to the relationship between local memory, everyday sociability, and material heritage.
