A Luz do Gótico: Interior da Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Pena no Castelo de Leiria
Interior da capela‑mor da Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Pena, integrada no recinto do Castelo de Leiria, estrutura associada às campanhas régias de D. Dinis e de D. João I entre os séculos XIV e XV. A cabeceira poligonal, rasgada por altas frestas lanceoladas, conduz o olhar para a abóbada de cruzaria de ogivas, onde os arcos convergem num fecho central esculpido que marca o ponto de encontro das cargas da estrutura. A verticalidade das colunas fasciculadas e a luz que penetra pelas janelas enfatizam o carácter litúrgico da antiga capela palatina, que serviu a comunidade intramuros e a corte quando instalada no castelo. Restaurada no século XX pela DGEMN, a igreja encontra‑se hoje dessacralizada, com pavimento em madeira e infraestruturas discretas que permitem a sua utilização como espaço cultural, preservando a leitura das formas góticas em cantaria exposta.
Interior of the chancel of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Pena, part of the grounds of Leiria Castle, a structure associated with the royal campaigns of King Dinis and King João I between the 14th and 15th centuries. The polygonal chancel, pierced by tall lancet windows, draws the eye to the ribbed vault, where the arches converge in a sculpted central keystone that marks the meeting point of the structure's loads. The verticality of the clustered columns and the light that penetrates through the windows emphasize the liturgical character of the former palatine chapel, which served the intramural community and the court when it was installed in the castle. Restored in the 20th century by the DGEMN, the church is now deconsecrated, with wooden flooring and discreet infrastructure that allows it to be used as a cultural space, preserving the Gothic forms in exposed stonework.
