Única raça asinina autóctone de Portugal, originária do Planalto Mirandês, o burro de Miranda distingue-se pela sua pelagem castanha com nuances brancas no focinho e olhos, e pelo seu temperamento dócil. Historicamente, desempenhou um papel crucial na agricultura transmontana. A mecanização e o abandono rural colocaram a raça em risco de extinção, motivando a intervenção de entidades como a AEPGA, que procuram a sua conservação e valorização. A sua importância genética e cultural é inegável e atualmente, a raça encontra uma nova esperança na sua utilização em atividades de turismo, terapia e manutenção da biodiversidade, o que contribui para a preservação deste património genético português.

At dawn in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, donkeys of the Mirandese breed graze in a rural environment. The only native donkey breed in Portugal, originating from the Miranda Plateau, the Miranda donkey is distinguished by its brown coat with white nuances on the muzzle and eyes, and by its docile temperament. Historically, it has played a crucial role in agriculture in the Trás-os-Montes region. Mechanization and rural abandonment have put the breed at risk of extinction, motivating the intervention of entities such as AEPGA, which seek its conservation and valorization. Its genetic and cultural importance is undeniable and, currently, the breed finds new hope in its use in tourism, therapy and biodiversity maintenance activities, which contributes to the preservation of this Portuguese genetic heritage.
