Entre Xisto e Granito: Vestígios da Moagem no Parque Natural do Alvão

Nas margens do rio Olo, a montante das Fisgas de Ermelo, no Parque Natural do Alvão, subsistem as ruínas de um antigo moinho de água em pedra, testemunho da engenharia tradicional e da economia de subsistência da região. Construído em xisto e granito, o moinho utilizava a força da água, desviada por levadas, para acionar um rodízio horizontal e moer cereais como o milho e o centeio, base da alimentação local. Estrategicamente localizado numa zona de forte declive, o moinho aproveitava ao máximo a energia hidráulica para mover as mós. Apesar do abandono, as ruínas, com vestígios das paredes e alicerces, integram agora percursos pedestres, como o "PR3 MDB – Fisgas de Ermelo", proporcionando aos visitantes um vislumbre do passado rural e da importância destes engenhos na transformação dos grãos em farinha. O moinho representa a simbiose entre a construção humana e a paisagem natural da serra do Alvão, enriquecendo a experiência dos caminhantes e marcando o património da região.

On the banks of the Olo River, upstream of the Fisgas de Ermelo, in the Alvão Natural Park, the ruins of an old stone water mill remain, a testament to the traditional engineering and subsistence economy of the region. Built in shale and granite, the mill used the force of water, diverted by levadas, to drive a horizontal wheel and grind cereals such as corn and rye, the basis of the local diet. Strategically located in a steeply sloping area, the mill made the most of hydraulic energy to move the millstones. Despite the abandonment, the ruins, with traces of the walls and foundations, are now part of pedestrian routes, such as the "PR3 MDB – Fisgas de Ermelo", providing visitors with a glimpse of the rural past and the importance of these mills in the transformation of grains into flour. The mill represents the symbiosis between human construction and the natural landscape of the Alvão mountain range, enriching the experience of hikers and marking the heritage of the region.
