O solo, coberto por um espesso tapete de folhas secas, serve de abrigo a inúmeras espécies de fauna invertebrada e nutre o solo, enriquecendo o ecossistema. Classificada como Reserva Biogenética pelo Conselho da Europa, a mata representa um dos últimos e mais bem conservados exemplos de floresta autóctone em Portugal, crucial para a regulação hídrica e conservação da biodiversidade. A importância do local transcende a sua riqueza natural, integrando um troço preservado da Geira Romana, com vestígios visíveis de marcos miliários, unindo património natural e histórico numa experiência única.

In the heart of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, the Albergaria Forest is a natural sanctuary of inestimable value. In autumn, the landscape becomes a mosaic of warm tones, with the leaves of the beech and the Portuguese oak, the dominant species of this centuries-old oak forest, painting the scenery with ocher and brown. The ground, covered by a thick carpet of dry leaves, serves as a shelter for countless species of invertebrate fauna and nourishes the soil, enriching the ecosystem. Classified as a Biogenetic Reserve by the Council of Europe, the forest represents one of the last and best-preserved examples of native forest in Portugal, crucial for water regulation and biodiversity conservation. The importance of the site transcends its natural wealth, integrating a preserved section of the Roman Geira, with visible traces of milestones, uniting natural and historical heritage in a unique experience.
