A Porta do Sol e a Memória da Muralha de Lamego
A Rua do Castelo, em Lamego, conduz o olhar até à Porta do Sol, uma das entradas medievais integradas na antiga muralha que protegia a cidade. Esta porta, de arco ogival em cantaria granítica, faz parte do sistema defensivo erguido entre os séculos XII e XIII, reforçado em períodos posteriores. Lamego, cidade do distrito de Viseu, na região do Douro, desempenhou um papel relevante na formação do reino de Portugal, sendo tradicionalmente associada, em narrativas posteriores, às lendárias Cortes de Lamego alegadamente realizadas em 1143. A estrutura da porta inclui um corpo superior com janela em arco de volta perfeita e varanda com gradeamento em ferro, evidenciando adaptações residenciais feitas ao longo dos séculos sobre a estrutura militar original. O pavimento em calçada de granito e as fachadas em alvenaria de pedra aparelhada mantêm a coerência arquitetónica do conjunto histórico. Através do arco, avistam-se os telhados e casario típico da encosta, com a paisagem verdejante do vale do Douro ao fundo.

Lamego, a city in the district of Viseu, in the Douro region, played a significant role in the formation of the Kingdom of Portugal and is traditionally associated, in later accounts, with the legendary Cortes de Lamego, allegedly held in 1143. The gate’s structure includes an upper section with a round-arched window and a balcony with iron railings, highlighting residential adaptations made over the centuries to the original military structure. The granite cobblestone pavement and the facades of dressed stone masonry maintain the architectural coherence of the historic complex. Through the arch, one can see the rooftops and typical houses of the hillside, with the verdant landscape of the Douro Valley in the background.
