Memórias da Indústria: O Forno da Vista Alegre em Ílhavo
No Museu da Fábrica da Vista Alegre, em Ílhavo, este antigo forno de porcelana preserva a escala e a lógica técnica da produção cerâmica industrial. Trata-se de uma estrutura circular em alvenaria de tijolo refratário, consolidada por cintas e travamentos metálicos que compensam dilatações térmicas e aumentam a estabilidade durante ciclos prolongados de cozedura. As aberturas e portas de carga permitiam introduzir as peças em caixas refratárias (saggers) e organizar o empilhamento para otimizar a circulação de calor. Em fornos deste tipo realizavam-se cozeduras sucessivas — chacota e, depois, vidrado/decoração — atingindo, na porcelana, temperaturas elevadas (aproximadamente 1400 °C ), essenciais para vitrificação, resistência mecânica e brancura. A musealização do equipamento, acompanhada por peças expostas, evidencia a transição entre saber artesanal, controlo do fogo e padronização produtiva que marcou a história da Vista Alegre e do património industrial português.
At the Vista Alegre Factory Museum in Ílhavo, this old porcelain kiln preserves the scale and technical logic of industrial ceramic production. It is a circular structure made of refractory brick masonry, reinforced by metal straps and locks that compensate for thermal expansion and increase stability during prolonged firing cycles. The openings and loading doors allowed the pieces to be placed in refractory boxes (saggers) and stacked to optimize heat circulation. In kilns of this type, successive firings were carried out — bisque firing and then glazing/decoration — reaching high temperatures (approximately 1400°C) in porcelain, which are essential for vitrification, mechanical resistance, and whiteness. The museumization of the equipment, accompanied by exhibited pieces, highlights the transition between craftsmanship, fire control, and production standardization that marked the history of Vista Alegre and Portuguese industrial heritage.
