Calatrava e a Luz: Uma Sinfonia ao Entardecer
Complexo arquitetónico da Cidade das Artes e das Ciências, localizado em Valência, Espanha, sob um pôr do sol vibrante. Em primeiro plano, destaca-se o L'Hemisfèric, a primeira estrutura do complexo a ser inaugurada, em 1998. Projetado pelo arquiteto valenciano Santiago Calatrava, o edifício apresenta uma cobertura ovoide que se assemelha a um olho humano gigante, simbolizando a observação do mundo. No seu interior, alberga uma sala de projeções IMAX, um planetário e um sistema de laser. Ao fundo, à direita, observa-se o Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, também da autoria de Calatrava, inaugurado em 2005, que funciona como a principal casa de ópera e centro de artes cénicas da região. Todo este complexo vanguardista foi edificado no antigo leito do rio Turia, desviado para sul na sequência da grande cheia de 1957, com obras realizadas a partir da década de 1960. Os extensos espelhos de água que circundam as estruturas não só cumprem uma função estética, refletindo a luz e as formas arquitetónicas, mas também ajudam a regular a temperatura do espaço envolvente.

Designed by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, the building features an ovoid roof that resembles a giant human eye, symbolizing the observation of the world. Inside, it houses an IMAX theater, a planetarium, and a laser system. In the background, on the right, stands the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, also designed by Calatrava and inaugurated in 2005, which serves as the region’s main opera house and performing arts center. This entire avant-garde complex was built on the former bed of the Turia River, which was diverted southward following the great flood of 1957, with construction beginning in the 1960s. The extensive reflecting pools surrounding the structures not only serve an aesthetic function, reflecting light and architectural forms, but also help regulate the temperature of the surrounding area.
