Cabeceiras de Basto: Património e Natureza nos Moinhos de Rei
Moinhos de Rei, situados na Serra da Cabreira, no concelho de Cabeceiras de Basto. Estas estruturas construídas em granito, visivelmente marcadas pela cobertura de musgo resultante da humidade característica da floresta, constituem um testemunho relevante da engenharia hidráulica tradicional da região do Minho. Historicamente, estes moinhos aproveitavam a força motriz dos cursos de água locais, canalizados através de levadas, para a moagem de cereais, desempenhando um papel central na economia de subsistência das populações rurais. Atualmente, este conjunto patrimonial encontra-se integrado no Trilho da Levada da Víbora, um percurso pedestre que acompanha as antigas infraestruturas de água. A preservação deste legado etnográfico permite compreender as técnicas ancestrais de aproveitamento dos recursos naturais e a arquitetura vernacular minhota, evidenciando uma simbiose funcional e sustentável entre a intervenção humana e a paisagem natural envolvente.
The Moinhos de Rei, located in the Serra da Cabreira in the municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto. These granite structures, visibly marked by a layer of moss resulting from the forest’s characteristic humidity, stand as a significant testament to the traditional hydraulic engineering of the Minho region. Historically, these mills harnessed the driving force of local watercourses, channeled through levadas, to grind grain, playing a central role in the subsistence economy of rural populations. Today, this heritage site is part of the Trilho da Levada da Víbora, a hiking trail that follows the ancient water infrastructure. The preservation of this ethnographic legacy allows us to understand the ancestral techniques for harnessing natural resources and the vernacular architecture of the Minho region, highlighting a functional and sustainable symbiosis between human intervention and the surrounding natural landscape.
