Entre a História e a Natureza: O Outono na Mata de Albergaria
A Mata de Albergaria, situada no Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês (PNPG), constitui um dos últimos vestígios de floresta autóctone da Península Ibérica. Esta imagem captura um carvalhal de carvalho-alvarinho (Quercus robur) durante o outono, evidenciando o tapete de folhas caídas característico desta estação. A mata estende-se ao longo do vale do rio Homem, ocupando cerca de 300 hectares entre os 700 e 900 metros de altitude. Classificada como Reserva Biogenética pelo Conselho da Europa desde 1999, esta floresta climácica mantém-se praticamente inalterada há séculos, representando o ecossistema que cobria grande parte do noroeste ibérico antes da intervenção humana. O sub-bosque alberga espécies como o azevinho, o medronheiro e diversos fetos. A área integra também a antiga Via Geira, estrada romana do século I que ligava Bracara Augusta (Braga) a Asturica Augusta (Astorga), cujos marcos miliários ainda permanecem visíveis ao longo do percurso.
The Mata de Albergaria, located in the Peneda-Gerês National Park (PNPG), is one of the last remaining areas of native forest on the Iberian Peninsula. This image captures an oak forest (Quercus robur) during autumn, highlighting the carpet of fallen leaves characteristic of this season. The forest stretches along the Homem River valley, covering about 300 hectares between 700 and 900 meters above sea level. Classified as a Biogenetic Reserve by the Council of Europe since 1999, this climax forest has remained virtually unchanged for centuries, representing the ecosystem that covered much of the Iberian northwest before human intervention. The undergrowth is home to species such as holly, arbutus, and various ferns. The area also includes the ancient Via Geira, a 1st-century Roman road that connected Bracara Augusta (Braga) to Asturica Augusta (Astorga), whose milestones are still visible along the route.
