Olo: Entre a Cascata e o Vale no Alvão
O troço superior do rio Olo, entre Varzigueto e as Fisgas de Ermelo, no Parque Natural do Alvão, apresenta um vale encaixado onde a água flui sobre rochas, criando rápidos e pequenas quedas. Este modelado fluvial ativo aproveita fraturas e a geologia singular que transita do planalto granítico para formações xistosas, culminando nas cascatas das Fisgas de Ermelo. As margens exibem vegetação ribeirinha, urze e carqueja, adaptadas aos solos ácidos transmontanos. Ao fundo, a malha rural de Varzigueto revela a agricultura de subsistência, com lameiros e socalcos moldados pela orografia. Este ecossistema sustenta biodiversidade, incluindo lontras e melros-d'água, sendo um corredor ecológico na Rede Natura 2000. A paisagem demonstra a interação entre natureza e atividade humana, com práticas agro-pastoris de montanha, pinhal e matos, num mosaico característico de Trás-os-Montes, onde a conservação ambiental e as tradições rurais coexistem, atraindo visitantes para atividades como caminhadas e observação de aves.
The upper section of the Olo River, between Varzigueto and Fisgas de Ermelo, within the Alvão Natural Park, features an embedded valley where water flows over rocks, creating rapids and small waterfalls. This active fluvial shaping utilizes fractures and the unique geology transitioning from the granite plateau to schist formations, culminating in the Fisgas de Ermelo waterfalls. The banks display riparian vegetation, heather, and rockrose, adapted to the acidic soils of Trás-os-Montes. In the background, the rural mesh of Varzigueto reveals subsistence agriculture, with meadows and terraces shaped by the orography. This ecosystem supports biodiversity, including otters and dippers, serving as an ecological corridor in the Natura 2000 Network.
