Memórias da Indústria: O Forno da Vista Alegre em Ílhavo
O Museu da Vista Alegre, em Ílhavo, exibe um preservado forno de cozedura, testemunho da produção da fábrica fundada em 1824 por José Ferreira Pinto Basto. Esta imponente estrutura em alvenaria de tijolo maciço, reforçada por cintas metálicas para suportar a dilatação térmica, revela a escala e complexidade dos processos industriais do século XIX e início do século XX. As bocas de fogo, outrora alimentadas por lenha e carvão, aqueciam o forno a temperaturas elevadas, essenciais para a vitrificação da porcelana. A musealização do equipamento, complementada pela exposição de peças de porcelana decoradas, ilustra a transição entre o saber artesanal, o controlo do fogo e a padronização produtiva, marcando a história da Vista Alegre e do património industrial português. A fábrica, pioneira na produção de cerâmica e vidro em Portugal, impulsionou a autossuficiência com habitações operárias, capela e outras estruturas, integrando-se no contexto da industrialização em Portugal.
The Vista Alegre Museum in Ílhavo displays a preserved kiln, evidence of the production of the factory founded in 1824 by José Ferreira Pinto Basto. This imposing structure in solid brick masonry, reinforced with metal straps to withstand thermal expansion, reveals the scale and complexity of industrial processes in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The fireboxes, once fueled by wood and coal, heated the kiln to high temperatures, essential for the vitrification of porcelain. The museumization of the equipment, complemented by an exhibition of decorated porcelain pieces, illustrates the transition between craftsmanship, fire control, and production standardization, marking the history of Vista Alegre and Portuguese industrial heritage. The factory, a pioneer in the production of ceramics and glass in Portugal, promoted self-sufficiency with workers' housing, a chapel, and other structures, integrating itself into the context of industrialization in Portugal.
