Caminhos de Pedra e Sustentabilidade em Sistelo
No coração da aldeia de Sistelo, em Arcos de Valdevez, um caminho rural conduz à Ecovia do Vez, revelando a paisagem cultural classificada como Monumento Nacional. Muros de pedra seca, construídos sem argamassa, estruturam socalcos e parcelas que contêm a erosão em solos graníticos, ilustrando uma técnica agrícola ancestral. Uma pequena construção vernácula, outrora curral, palheiro ou abrigo de alfaias, ergue-se com pedra local, exibindo a colonização de musgos e líquenes e a sua integração no ambiente. Estes caminhos interligavam campos, cortes e pontos de água, articulando a agricultura de subsistência com a pastorícia, elementos-chave da economia local. Este cenário reflete a arquitetura funcional do Alto Minho e a harmonia entre o património edificado e o ambiente natural da Reserva da Biosfera Gerês-Xurés. A Ecovia do Vez, percurso pedonal ao longo do rio Vez, valoriza a mobilidade suave e a interpretação do território, preservando a memória das comunidades serranas e perpetuando a alcunha de "Pequeno Tibete Português", atribuída a Sistelo devido aos seus caraterísticos socalcos.
In the heart of the village of Sistelo, in Arcos de Valdevez, a rural path leads to the Ecovia do Vez, revealing the cultural landscape classified as a National Monument. Dry stone walls, built without mortar, structure terraces and plots that contain erosion in granitic soils, illustrating an ancient agricultural technique. A small vernacular building, once a corral, barn, or tool shed, stands with local stone, displaying the colonization of mosses and lichens and its integration into the environment. These paths interconnected fields, livestock pens, and water sources, articulating subsistence agriculture with pastoralism, key elements of the local economy. This scenario reflects the functional architecture of Alto Minho and the harmony between built heritage and the natural environment of the Gerês-Xurés Biosphere Reserve. The Ecovia do Vez, a pedestrian path along the Vez River, promotes soft mobility and the interpretation of the territory, preserving the memory of the mountain communities and perpetuating the nickname "Little Portuguese Tibet," attributed to Sistelo due to its characteristic terraces.
