No interior das muralhas de Castelo Melhor, em Vila Nova de Foz Côa, inicia-se a Rota das Amendoeiras, um percurso pedestre que revela a identidade do Douro Superior através da agricultura tradicional. O caminho, ladeado por oliveiras e amendoeiras, destaca-se especialmente durante a floração, entre fevereiro e março, atraindo visitantes para o esplendor natural da região. Os muros de pedra seca, testemunhos de técnicas ancestrais de delimitação de propriedades, encontram-se nas encostas xistosas onde esta cultura é predominante. O castelo medieval, erguido para vigiar o vale do Côa, integra-se nesta paisagem cultural rica, marcada pelo socalco e pela intervenção humana ao longo dos séculos. Inside the walls of Castelo Melhor, in Vila Nova de Foz Côa, begins the Almond Tree Route, a walking trail that reveals the identity of the Upper Douro through traditional agriculture. The path, lined with olive and almond trees, is especially striking during flowering season, between February and March, attracting visitors to the region's natural splendor. The dry stone walls, evidence of ancestral techniques for demarcating properties, are found on the schist slopes where this culture is predominant. The medieval castle, built to watch over the Côa valley, blends into this rich cultural landscape, marked by terraces and human intervention over the centuries.
