A Anunciação em Mármore: Detalhe da Catedral de Florença
A Catedral de Santa Maria del Fiore, ou Duomo de Florença, exibe um portal lateral da fachada ocidental, resultado da remodelação neogótica concluída em 1887 sob a direção de Emilio De Fabris. A fachada, revestida em mármore branco de Carrara, verde de Prato e rosa de Maremma, foi concebida para harmonizar com o Batistério e o Campanário. O tímpano destaca-se com um mosaico de Niccolò Barabino, executado em Veneza, representando a Anunciação, tema mariano central, reforçado pela inscrição na arquitrave "ECCE ANCILLA DOMINI", alusiva à aceitação de Maria. The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, or Florence Cathedral, features a side portal on the western façade, the result of neo-Gothic remodeling completed in 1887 under the direction of Emilio De Fabris. The façade, clad in white Carrara marble, green Prato marble, and pink Maremma marble, was designed to harmonize with the Baptistery and the Bell Tower. The tympanum stands out with a mosaic by Niccolò Barabino, executed in Venice, representing the Annunciation, a central Marian theme, reinforced by the inscription on the architrave “ECCE ANCILLA DOMINI,” alluding to Mary's acceptance. The profuse decoration includes archivolts carved with plant motifs and angelic figures, twisted columns, and niches with prophets and doctors of the Church, reinterpreting Gothic aesthetics with 19th-century techniques.
