Escavações na Villa Romana de Sendim: Estruturas e Vestígios da Antiga Ocupação Romana

A fotografia de 2005 documenta as escavações arqueológicas da Villa Romana de Sendim, em Felgueiras, que datam da ocupação romana entre os séculos I e VI d.C. Descoberta em 1992, esta ‘villa’ rural, classificada como Imóvel de Interesse Público desde 1997, revela as suas origens no século I d.C., e sofreu remodelações significativas nos séculos III e IV. As escavações expuseram uma variedade de estruturas habitacionais e produtivas, organizadas em torno de um pátio central (peristylum), com diversos compartimentos decorados com mosaicos. Os vestígios encontrados incluem cerâmica comum e luxuosa, vidros, metais e moedas, permitindo compreender a vida quotidiana e a economia da época. A cobertura metálica e os passadiços elevados foram implementados para proteger os vestígios e facilitar o acesso dos visitantes, assegurando a conservação deste importante património arqueológico.

The 2005 photograph documents the archaeological excavations of the Roman Villa of Sendim, in Felgueiras, which date back to the Roman occupation between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. Discovered in 1992, this rural villa, classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1997, reveals its origins in the 1st century AD and underwent significant renovations in the 3rd and 4th centuries. The excavations exposed a variety of residential and productive structures, organized around a central courtyard (peristylum), with several rooms decorated with mosaics. The remains found include common and luxurious ceramics, glass, metals, and coins, providing insight into the daily life and economy of the time. The metal roof and elevated walkways were implemented to protect the remains and facilitate visitor access, ensuring the conservation of this important archaeological heritage.
