A Mesquita de Hassan II, em Casablanca, é um dos maiores e mais emblemáticos edifícios religiosos do mundo. Inaugurada em 1993, foi idealizada pelo arquiteto francês Michel Pinseau e erguida por ordem do Rei Hassan II. Parte da estrutura foi construída sobre o Oceano Atlântico, evocando a ligação divina com as águas. O minarete, com 210 metros, destaca-se como o mais alto do mundo, emitindo um laser direcionado a Meca. A mesquita pode acomodar até 105.000 fiéis, entre o interior e a esplanada exterior. A sua construção mobilizou milhares de artesãos marroquinos, que utilizaram materiais nobres como mármore, granito e cedro para criar intrincados mosaicos e esculturas. Para além da sua função religiosa, a mesquita é um centro cultural com uma biblioteca e museu, sendo um dos poucos locais religiosos em Marrocos abertos a visitantes não-muçulmanos.
The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca is one of the largest and most iconic religious buildings in the world. Opened in 1993, it was designed by French architect Michel Pinseau and built on the orders of King Hassan II. Part of the structure was built over the Atlantic Ocean, evoking the divine connection with the waters. The 210-meter minaret stands out as the tallest in the world, emitting a laser beam directed towards Mecca. The mosque can accommodate up to 105,000 worshippers, between the interior and the outdoor esplanade. Its construction mobilized thousands of Moroccan artisans, who used noble materials such as marble, granite, and cedar to create intricate mosaics and sculptures. In addition to its religious function, the mosque is a cultural center with a library and museum, and is one of the few religious sites in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors.
