As ruínas da Igreja da Misericórdia de Sortelha, localizadas fora das muralhas da aldeia histórica e também conhecidas como Igreja de Santa Rita ou Igreja de São João, datam do século XIV, com referências a 1320. O templo, ligado a práticas assistenciais e religiosas, foi ampliado em 1626 e apresentou diversas intervenções ao longo dos séculos, incluindo obras no século XVIII. A estrutura em granito destaca-se pelo arco triunfal e a base do púlpito decorado com motivos medievais, refletindo a típica organização das igrejas manuelinas. Com uma planta retangular e nave única, a igreja sofreu um colapso na cobertura em meados do século XX, permanecendo em ruínas há mais de cinquenta anos. O adro alberga sepulturas antropomórficas, evidenciando práticas funerárias medievais. Este espaço representa um importante testemunho do património religioso e social da localidade, atestando o papel das confrarias da Misericórdia na comunidade ao longo dos séculos, numa época de declínio demográfico das aldeias do interior.

The ruins of the Church of Mercy of Sortelha, located outside the walls of the historic village and also known as the Church of Santa Rita or the Church of São João, date back to the 14th century, with references to 1320. The temple, linked to welfare and religious practices, was enlarged in 1626 and underwent several interventions over the centuries, including works in the 18th century. The granite structure is notable for its triumphal arch and the base of the pulpit decorated with medieval motifs, reflecting the typical organization of Manueline churches. With a rectangular plan and a single nave, the church's roof collapsed in the mid-20th century, and it has remained in ruins for more than fifty years. The churchyard houses anthropomorphic tombs, evidencing medieval funerary practices. This space represents an important testimony to the religious and social heritage of the locality, attesting to the role of the Misericórdia brotherhoods in the community over the centuries, at a time of demographic decline in the villages of the interior.
