O Oratório de Santa Croce (ou dos Bianchi), em Monterosso al Mare, Cinque Terre, oferece um vislumbre da história religiosa e social da região. Originalmente sede da confraria dos Bianchi, que prestava assistência social e geria o hospital local até ao século XVII, o oratório exibe uma rica decoração barroca. No seu interior, de nave única, destacam-se o altar-mor adornado com uma pintura da Crucificação, as capelas laterais e os afrescos bem preservados. Um elemento particularmente notável é o modelo de um navio suspenso no topo do arco do presbitério, um ex-voto oferecido por marinheiros ou pescadores, testemunhando a ligação da comunidade ao mar e o papel crucial das confrarias na vida social e espiritual da Itália desde a Idade Média. O oratório, com as suas funções litúrgicas ativas, preserva a herança religiosa e artística das Cinque Terre e demonstra a devoção popular da comunidade de Monterosso. 

The Oratory of Santa Croce (or of the Bianchi), in Monterosso al Mare, Cinque Terre, offers a glimpse into the region’s religious and social history. Originally the seat of the Bianchi confraternity, which provided social assistance and managed the local hospital until the 17th century, the oratory boasts rich Baroque decoration. Inside, with a single nave, the main altar adorned with a painting of the Crucifixion, the side chapels and the well-preserved frescoes stand out. A particularly notable element is the model of a ship suspended at the top of the presbytery arch, an ex-voto offered by sailors or fishermen, testifying to the community’s connection to the sea and the crucial role of confraternities in Italy’s social and spiritual life since the Middle Ages. The oratory, with its active liturgical functions, preserves the religious and artistic heritage of the Cinque Terre and demonstrates the popular devotion of the community of Monterosso.
