The image depicts the interior of the historic district of Bryggen in Bergen, Norway, an important commercial center of the Hanseatic League since the 14th century, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. Composed of wooden buildings painted in reddish tones, Bryggen exemplifies traditional Hanseatic architecture, characterized by steep gable structures, narrow passages and exterior stairs adapted to the terrain. For almost 400 years, German merchants used these buildings to store goods, especially dried cod, and for housing. Despite the various fires, including the most devastating one in 1702, the reconstructions respected the original medieval layout, maintaining the functional organization of the space, with irregular stone floors that reveal the history of the place. Currently, about 62 preserved buildings house museums, craft shops, and restaurants, making Bryggen a significant example of urban preservation and an attractive destination for visitors interested in the region's rich cultural and commercial heritage.
