A acrópole do Castro de Monte Mozinho, em Penafiel, a área mais elevada e central deste povoado fortificado. Delimitada por robustas muralhas de pedra, a acrópole aparenta ter sido um espaço multifuncional, sem construções interiores, utilizado para atividades comunitárias, como assembleias e mercados. Fundado entre o final do século I a.C. e o século I d.C., e habitado até ao século V, o castro representa uma transição entre as tradições castrejas e a influência romana, refletida na sua organização urbana e arquitetura, que integra tanto casas-pátio circulares como estruturas retangulares. A sua localização estratégica permitia o controlo territorial do vale do Sousa e das rotas interiores-litoral. Escavações revelaram diversos artefactos, incluindo estátuas de guerreiros galaicos, hoje no Museu Municipal de Penafiel, evidenciando a relevância deste sítio arqueológico para o estudo da romanização no Noroeste peninsular. A paisagem circundante, com vegetação e eucaliptos, emoldura este importante testemunho da história local.

The acropolis of Castro de Monte Mozinho, in Penafiel, is the highest and most central area of this fortified settlement. Bounded by sturdy stone walls, the acropolis appears to have been a multifunctional space, with no interior buildings, used for community activities such as assemblies and markets. Founded between the end of the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD, and inhabited until the 5th century, the Castro represents a transition between the Castrean traditions and the Roman influence, reflected in its urban organization and architecture, which integrates both circular courtyard houses and rectangular structures. Its strategic location allowed territorial control of the Sousa valley and the inland-coastal routes. Excavations have revealed several artifacts, including statues of Galician warriors, now in the Penafiel Municipal Museum, highlighting the relevance of this archaeological site for the study of Romanization in the peninsular Northwest. The surrounding landscape, with vegetation and eucalyptus trees, frames this important testimony of local history.
