A navegabilidade deste troço do Douro, próximo da foz, possibilita passeios de barco e outras atividades náuticas, integrando-se no percurso fluvial que liga o Porto à região do Douro Vinhateiro, Património Mundial da UNESCO. Esta zona mantém uma forte ligação histórica ao rio, que durante séculos serviu como principal via de comunicação e transporte na região do Grande Porto.
