O nome atual da rua, datado do século XVIII, recorda os "Oficiais da Condotta", magistrados responsáveis pelo recrutamento de mercenários. Previously, it was known as Via del Garbo, alluding to trade with North Africa. The street intersects with the Vicolo dei Cerchi, evoking the influence of the Cerchi family, central to the conflicts between White and Black Guelphs in the time of Dante Alighieri, who lived in this area. Nearby is the church of Santa Margherita de' Cerchi, linked to Dante and Beatrice. The area, rich in medieval towers and palaces, bears witness to the Florence of the 13th and 14th centuries.
