O Museu Nacional de Arte Romana, em Mérida, representa a visão arquitetónica de Rafael Moneo, inaugurada em 1986. O edifício, construído em tijolo aparente, é um tributo à grandiosidade da arquitetura romana, com arcos de meio ponto que evocam as construções monumentais da época. Concebido para refletir o espírito romano e albergar uma coleção significativa de arte e artefactos da antiga Emerita Augusta, o museu integra a luz natural através de claraboias, criando um diálogo entre o design contemporâneo e as técnicas construtivas da Roma Antiga. As salas e galerias exibem esculturas, mosaicos e outros vestígios arqueológicos que testemunham a vida e organização da cidade romana. O museu ainda se estende por baixo do solo, onde uma cripta revela ruínas arqueológicas integradas na experiência de visita, ligando diretamente o presente ao passado romano da cidade.

The National Museum of Roman Art in Mérida, inaugurated in 1986, represents the architectural vision of Rafael Moneo. The building, constructed in exposed brick, is a tribute to the grandeur of Roman architecture, with semicircular arches that evoke the monumental constructions of the time. Designed to reflect the Roman spirit and house a significant collection of art and artifacts from ancient Emerita Augusta, the museum integrates natural light through skylights, creating a dialogue between contemporary design and the construction techniques of Ancient Rome. The rooms and galleries display sculptures, mosaics, and other archaeological remains that bear witness to the life and organization of the Roman city. The museum also extends underground, where a crypt reveals archaeological ruins integrated into the visitor experience, directly linking the present to the city's Roman past.
