A Catedral de Santa Maria Assunta, também conhecida como Duomo di Pisa, é um exemplo marcante da arquitetura românica pisana, inaugurada em 1118 e situada na Piazza dei Miracoli, integrada ao Património Mundial da UNESCO. A construção começou em 1064, refletindo a prosperidade da República Marítima de Pisa. O interior apresenta uma fusão de influências bizantinas, islâmicas e clássicas, evidenciada nas colunas de mármore com capitéis coríntios e nas faixas alternadas de mármore preto e branco. O teto de caixotões de madeira, elaborado no século XVII, substituiu a estrutura original destruída num incêndio em 1595 e exibe o brasão da família Médici. O destaque da ábside é o mosaico de "Cristo em Majestade", de Cimabue, documentado entre 1301 e 1302. A catedral reflete a evolução artística ao longo dos séculos, preservando uma herança cultural e histórica significativa de Pisa, complementada pela sua proximidade com a famosa Torre Inclinada e o Batistério.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, also known as the Duomo di Pisa, is a striking example of Pisan Romanesque architecture.
