Junto à abandonada via-férrea e à Ponte Ferroviária Internacional do Águeda, ergue-se um edifício branco de apoio à antiga Linha do Douro, na margem portuguesa do rio. Esta estrutura, "Casa da Ponte Internacional", antecede a estação terminal de Barca d'Alva e desempenhava um papel no apoio operacional à ligação ferroviária transfronteiriça entre Portugal e Espanha. A Linha do Douro, que ligava o Porto a Barca d'Alva desde 1887, prolongava-se até La Fregeneda e Salamanca, através da ponte sobre o Águeda. Contudo, o troço internacional foi encerrado em 1985 pelo governo espanhol, levando à desativação, em 1988, do segmento entre o Pocinho e Barca d'Alva, e consequentemente ao abandono deste edifício e de outras infraestruturas associadas. A paisagem, marcada pela vegetação mediterrânica e pelo terreno montanhoso do Douro Internacional, testemunha a importância histórica desta ligação ferroviária. Recentemente, a possível reabertura deste troço tem sido alvo de discussões e estudos.

Next to the abandoned railway line and the Águeda International Railway Bridge stands a white building that once served the old Douro Line, on the Portuguese bank of the river. This structure, “International Bridge House”, predates the Barca d'Alva terminal station and played a role in supporting the cross-border rail link between Portugal and Spain. The Douro Line, which connected Porto to Barca d'Alva since 1887, extended to La Fregeneda and Salamanca via the bridge over the Águeda. However, the international section was closed in 1985 by the Spanish government, leading to the decommissioning of the segment between Pocinho and Barca d'Alva in 1988, and consequently to the abandonment of this building and other associated infrastructure. The landscape, marked by Mediterranean vegetation and the mountainous terrain of the Douro International, bears witness to the historical importance of this railway connection. Recently, the possible reopening of this section has been the subject of discussions and studies.
