A Via Giuseppe Verdi, situada no coração do centro histórico de Florença, em Itália, liga a Piazza Santa Croce à Via Pietrapiana. Esta rua histórica, que outrora era conhecida por nomes como Via del Diluvio, Via delle Stinche e Via del Fosso, reflete a rica história da cidade, desde a inundação de 1557 até à presença da antiga prisão das Stinche, demolida no século XIX. No local desta antiga prisão ergue-se hoje o Teatro Verdi, originalmente Teatro Pagliano (inaugurado em 1854) e renomeado em 1901 em homenagem ao compositor Giuseppe Verdi – o mesmo ano em que a rua recebeu o seu nome atual. A Via Giuseppe Verdi, com a sua arquitetura toscana típica do Renascimento (edifícios em pedra e tijolo, telhados de terracota, ornamentos em ferro forjado e uma estreita rua pedonal revestida a lajes de pedra), o Teatro Verdi e a proximidade a pontos emblemáticos como a Basílica de Santa Croce, representa um importante eixo que liga património, memória urbana e vida cultural florentina, tendo como pano de fundo a imponente torre do Palazzo Vecchio, um símbolo do poder político da antiga República Florentina.

Via Giuseppe Verdi, located in the heart of the historic center of Florence, Italy, connects Piazza Santa Croce to Via Pietrapiana. This historic street, which was once known by names such as Via del Diluvio, Via delle Stinche and Via del Fosso, reflects the city's rich history, from the flood of 1557 to the presence of the old Stinche prison, demolished in the 19th century. On the site of this former prison stands the Teatro Verdi, originally Teatro Pagliano (opened in 1854) and renamed in 1901 in honor of the composer Giuseppe Verdi – the same year that the street received its current name. Via Giuseppe Verdi, with its typical Tuscan Renaissance architecture (stone and brick buildings, terracotta roofs, wrought iron ornaments and a narrow pedestrian street covered with stone slabs), the Verdi Theater and the proximity to emblematic points such as the Basilica of Santa Croce, represents an important axis that connects heritage, urban memory and Florentine cultural life, having as its backdrop the imposing tower of Palazzo Vecchio, a symbol of the political power of the ancient Florentine Republic.
